What this is and what it doesn’t do.
I’m Alex. This is where I put things I’ve written down properly rather than losing in a notes app.
Mostly it’s the web, software, and whatever else has my attention at the time. There’s no schedule. Some months there are three posts and some months there are none, and I’ve stopped feeling bad about that.
The name is borrowed from the library, which was a place for keeping things rather than broadcasting them. That’s roughly the idea.
What it doesn’t do
This is the privacy policy. It’s short because there isn’t much to describe.
There are no ads, of any kind, including the sort that calls itself sponsored content. No analytics, no pixels, no third-party embeds, nothing that follows you afterwards.
The site sets one thing in browser storage: a theme value, so it remembers whether you picked light or dark. It never leaves your machine and nothing reads it except this page.
There’s no newsletter popup. If you want to keep up with it there’s an RSS feed, and that’s the whole subscription mechanism.
Every file comes from this domain — no fonts or scripts loaded from anyone else’s server. The site uses whichever serif your device already has, which is why it loads instantly and why it looks slightly different on a Mac than on Windows. I’d rather have that than a 300 KB font nobody consciously notices.
The server keeps normal access logs, like every web server does. I look at them when something’s broken.
How it’s built
Markdown files go through a small Python script that writes plain HTML, and nginx serves the result. No CMS, no database, nothing running per request. The page you’re reading was generated before you asked for it. I wrote more about that here.
